Spanish Propers Project

PURPOSE: This project is intended to provide FREE resources for use at Spanish or bilingual liturgies.

PART ONE: The project has two parts. The first part of the project was done using the Misal Proper texts from the Mexican Misal and includes chant settings of the Introit and Communion antiphons (from the Misal — not translations of the Propers from the Graduale Romanum, since official translations are not available). In addition, using Bible texts, settings for the Offertory Chants were also completed wherever possible. Wherever the Mexican Misal is used, these texts for Entrance and Communion antiphons should match.

PART TWO: The second part of the project has been done using the new USCCB Spanish Misal proper texts for the Entrance and Communion antiphons (making changes or new adaptations where necessary), including the Offertory propers from the earlier project and also adding Responsorial Psalms and Gospel Acclamation settings (using the USCCB.org Lectionary). Please note that these texts include Psalm verses taken from the Mexican Lectionary. These texts may differ slightly from the texts seen in major publishers’ worship aids because of the source of the texts. Many of the major publishers use the Mexican text for the antiphon, but take the psalm verses from the old Spanish lectionary. Either text is approved for use in the US; for ease of access, I have used the lectionary from the USCCB.org website.

This work began with Advent – Year C and will follow the 2019-2020 Liturgical Calendar forward. These updates include All proper texts: Entrance Antiphon, Responsorial Psalm, Gospel Acclamation, Offertory and Communion.
